Open Thread: National Basketball Player Association honors Patty Mills with 2019 Backbone Award

The award recognizes the player who represents the heart and soul of their team

We all know how special Patty Mills is to the San Antonio Spurs. As the only member of the 2014 Championship team to be with the Spurs since (Marco Belinelli has rejoined), he has been the backbone of the franchise. It’s a lot to be uplifted by a team and the city that you represent, yet another to be recognized by other throughout the league who have the same job that you do.

There is nary a Spurs highlight where Mills cannot be seen waving a towel, not a timeout where he is not the first off the bench to high-five his teammates, or a moment when he isn’t extending his hand to someone after a good play.

Great recognition of the Aussie, and just in time to add on to his already celebratory week.

Congrats, Patty.
