Open Thread: 500 teams taking part in basketball tournament in San Antonio

Spurs & All-American Sports Nationals welcomes more than 500 teams to compete in a tournament in San Antonio. The AT&T Center serves as host June 24-27 along with 15 area gyms throughout the city. Over 5,000 youth athletes will compete in over 1,000 basketball games for a chance to advance to each division’s championship games culminating at the AT&T Center.

“The Spurs & All-American Sports Nationals is an exciting tournament for the city of San Antonio and these young athletes,” said Joe Clark, Spurs Sports & Entertainment, VP Youth Sports and Community Engagement. “We get to showcase our city to thousands of visitors while the players show off their best skills. Those skills reach beyond basketball in helping them to understand the value of teamwork while building character both on and off the court.”

The four-day weekend kicks off with the Third Annual Nationals Fan Fest on Thursday, June 24, at the AT&T Center & George Gervin Youth Academy, which features:

  • Self-guided experience of Spurs Legends, Champions Walk including trophies, banners, mock interview session and Tim Duncan Hall of Fame highlights with photo opportunities
  • Players can show off their shot in the Ballogy 3-point contest
  • Whataburger All Star Skills Challenge powered by Ballogy at the AT&T Center
  • Commemorative tournament T-shirts and hats available
