Before the invention of apps like Co-Star and other online sources reading the stars for us, we had Walter Mercado, a staple of Latino households who is now immortalized in the Lone Star Arts District.

Los Otros Murals, the prolific art group consisting of Nik Soupé and Shek Vega, dedicated an exterior wall of their studio at 120 E. Lachapelle to the Puerto Rican astrologer and beloved TV personality who died in November 2019.

The muralists were not immediately available for comment, but Soupé explained how the new art came to be in a Facebook post on Monday.

“Always know it’s gonna be an adventure when I get an call early in the morning with ‘dude, I had a dream of what we need to paint today,”  Soupé said of his call with Vega.

The two artist are still working on what to do with the wall. For now, fans can see the mural on the East-facing wall at the studio. Soupé recommended “Mucho Mucho Amor: The Legend of Walter Mercado,” the Netlflix documentary about his life, to those who have not seen it.  Soupé took a page out of Mercado’s book for a sign off.

“And as always thank you for supporting and hope you have a beautiful day con ‘mucho mucho amor,'” he wrote online.
