More than 21,000 CPS Energy residents lose power due to storms

As of 9:14 p.m., CPS Energy’s outage map reports power has been restored to several thousand customers. The number of outages has increased from 126 to 157, but customers affected has dropped to 15,449.

Thunderstorms rolled into San Antonio and Texas Hill Country late Thursday evening, March 2, knocking out power for thousands of CPS Energy customers.

According to the company’s latest outage map around 8:45pm, 21,663 customers are lost power across 126 separate outages. A tweet from the company’s Twitter account said that crews are “en route to the outages.”

A warning on CPS’ website instructs people to avoid downed power lines, which can be reported by dialing 210-353-4357. People are advised to not attempt to move or drive over power lines in case they are still powered

More than 340,000 people had lost power across the state according to PowerOutage.us. North Texas was especially hard hit by violent winds. Videos of transformers blowing near downtown Dallas.

Around 7:15 p.m., CPS Energy Chief Meteorologist Brian Alonzo reported a Severe Thunderstorm Warning is now in full effect for the Northwest parts of San Antonio. Alonzo added at the time that a line of incoming showers and storms would only continue to get more organized.

The outages come a day after thousands of Texans across the state experienced large-sized hail as storms ripped through parts of South-Central Texas Wednesday night.
