Missing Texas woman found alive in submerged Jeep, officials say

A missing East Texas woman was found alive inside a Jeep that was submerged underwater, according to a Facebook post from the Marion County Sheriff’s Office on Friday, April 7. Officials said a fisherman spotted the Jeep in Lake o’ the Pines in the eastern part of the state.

The fisherman reported the jeep and told deputies it was about 40 feet away from the Woody’s Camp boat ramp. Photos from the scene, shared by the MCSO, show the black Jeep almost fully covered by water. Only a small portion of its roof remained above the lake.

Deputies arrived at the scene as well as a local wrecker service. As the Jeep was being prepared for removal from the water, it was discovered a person was still in the vehicle and moving, the sheriff’s office stated in its post.

A woman, who was listed as a missing person by the Longview Police Department, was inside the submerged vehicle, according to officials. With the assistance of a local wrecker service, the fisherman and Marion County deputies, the missing woman was safely rescued from the submerged Jeep.

The woman, who has not been publicly identified, was transported to a local hospital in an unknown condition. According to KHOU, the woman had been missing for two days. Officials did not reveal how long the Jeep was in the water or how it got there.

Longview is about 35 miles south of the lake.
