Liverpool monitor Karim Adeyemi amidst interest from major clubs in Germany and Spain

Liverpool in the hunt for German starlet

Jürgen Klopp can lament a lack of business done by Liverpool over the last two summers, but that could soon be about to change moving forward as the club has been linked with German international wunderkind Karim Adeyemi.

Adeyemi has risen to prominence over the last 12-months, has been a key piece at Red Bull Arena for RB Salzburg in 2020-21, making 29 appearances in the Austrian Bundesliga, scoring seven goals in the process. Such has been his development that he was given his debut for Die Mannschaft, scoring in a substitute appearance in Germany’s 6-0 drubbing of Armenia two nights ago in Stuttgart.

Not surprisingly, European giants are already circling to pounce for an inevitable move away from Salzburg and Liverpool have put their name in the hat along with German juggernaut Bayern Munich, and Barcelona.

Germany have a bright future in attack under Hansi Flick, with Adeyemi (19) added to a list of youthful attacking options that include Chelsea’s Kai Havertz (22), Bayern’s Jamal Musiala (18), and Bayer Leverkusen’s Florian Wirtz (18), and with Adeyemi’s star already on the rise, Liverpool must get their foot in the door in a timely fashion if they are to have any chance of securing a deal for the highest valued player in Austria (per Transfermarkt).

Long-term solution at center-forward must be a priority

After being released by Bayern’s youth academy, Adeyemi went on to rebound through the youth set up at FC Unterhaching before securing a move to Salzburg at 16 in the summer of 2018. Three years on, the Munich-born striker has grown to the point where his former charge is considering bringing him back into the fold, but Liverpool and their need for a long-term center forward solution could present an interesting option for the youngster.

As it stands, the Reds have just Roberto Firmino as their only legitimate center-forward, with Divock Origi never making the grade at Anfield and Diogo Jota – while a capable deputy through the middle – is at his best deployed in one of the wide births.

But the praise for Adeyemi from national team boss Hansi Flick would be cause for optimism for the German teen who is currently valued at £17million after smashing 6-goals in as many games to start the 2021-22 Austrian campaign.

“He can be ice cold in front of goal.” Hansi Flick

Already showing a high degree of lethality at club level while having hit the ground running for his country, it won’t be before long that Adeyemi’s value skyrockets. Where Liverpool has failed in the past to show consistent initiative in the transfer market, there could be an opportunity to set the record straight despite having to combat other elite clubs.

Bayern still has Robert Lewandowski on the books and he shows no signs of slowing down, while Barcelona just completed moves for Luuk De Jong and Memphis Depay this summer. If not for any other reason, Liverpool certainly offers a faster pathway to first-team minutes should Adeyemi opt to leave Austria in the near future.
