‘A club like that could really use him’

Most of the time we generally see managers trying to keep hold of their top players.

However, on this occasion, it looks as though one manager is trying to get one of his players a move to Liverpool.

Speaking in a recent interview, Genk manager Dimitri de Conde stated that a club like Liverpool could really use a player like Paul Onachu, adding that the forward would have scored for the Reds last weekend against a 10-man Chelsea side:

“Did you see Liverpool against Chelsea? Liverpool have the best strikers, but none with the same profile as Onuachu. He would have scored against ten men.

“I’m not saying that Paul would play 90 minutes every week in Liverpool, but a club like that could really use him.”

Who is Paul Onuachu?

Who actually is Paul Onuachu though, and should Liverpool be looking to sign him?

Onuachu, 27, would make the move to his current side, Genk, in 2019 – departing Danish outfit FC Midtjylland for a fee reported to be around £5.4m.

Onuachu has since featured on 76 occasions for the Belgian outfit, scoring 48 and assisting seven along the way.

The 10-time capped Nigerian international has also actually played against Liverpool whilst on Genk’s books.

He featured in both of Genk’s Champions League group clashes in 2019/20 vs the Reds, but failed to score or assist.

Onuachu is a centre-forward by trade and cannot really operate in any other position. And with Liverpool already having Roberto Firmino and Diogo Jota for this spot, perhaps the Reds should look elsewhere for attacking reinforcements.
