Josh McCown seen as favorite among three Texans head-coaching candidates

It remains to be seen who will be the next Texans head coach after Houston fired David Culley following just one season.

What we do know is that the downtrodden organization must get this hire right after what was a disastrous past calendar year.

After interviewing multiple candidates for the job, the Texans announced on Monday that they have narrowed their list of candidates down to three. That includes former NFL quarterback Josh McCown, former Miami Dolphins head coach Brian Flores and Philadelphia Eagles defensive coordinator Jonathan Gannon.

One of these names is not like the other. Despite the fact that he has absolutely zero coaching experience at the collegiate or professional level, McCown is seen as the favorite to land the job. McCown is a veteran NFL quarterback of 18 seasons, and his only coaching experience was in a voluntary role in high school.

McCown, 42, actually interviewed for Houston’s  job last January while he was technically still a member of the Texans after they signed him off the New York Jets’ practice squad. That’s a real thing.
