Jaguars QB Trevor Lawrence, RB Trevor Etienne to play ‘a couple of series’ in preseason game vs. Browns

The Jacksonville Jaguars elected not to play starting quarterback Trevor Lawrence and running back Trevor Etienne in the annual Hall of Fame game last week. Head coach Doug Pederson said Wednesday morning that both players will get their first crack at preseason action when the squad takes on the Cleveland Browns on Friday.

Former 1,000-yard rusher James Robinson — who is recovering from last season’s torn Achilles — will not suit up against the Browns however and neither will wideout Laviska Shenault.

While it is now evident that Lawrence will see the field on Friday, it is not yet clear which quarterbacks will suit up for Jacksonville’s opponent. Browns head coach Kevin Stefanski said Tuesday that embattled new acquisition Deshaun Watson will at least make the trip with his teammates to Florida, but the coach was staying mum on the team’s plans for the contest.

Etienne was selected by the Jaguars with the 25th overall pick in 2021, but missed the entire year after suffering a Lisfranc tear in his foot during the preseason. Lawrence had his fair share of struggles during his rookie campaign after being selected with the first overall pick, tying Matthew Stafford for the NFL high in interceptions with 17.
