‘It’s the shoes’: Why footwear is to blame for Cowboys’ loss to Green Bay

Not since Agador in “The Birdcage” has footwear caused so many problems.

Per Calvin Watkins of The Dallas Morning News, tight end Dalton Schultz lamented the team’s loss on everyone not being on the same page when it came to wearing cleats with long enough spikes.

“Five guys didn’t have their seven (inch) studs in. Got to prepare to play on grass. You got to wear the right cleats,” he said. (h/t The Dallas Morning News)

Per Watkins, head coach Mike McCarthy — already familiar with the surface from his time as Packers head coach — stressed the importance of getting the proper footwear before playing on the grass surface.

AT&T Stadium, home of the Cowboys, uses artificial turf.

The warning wasn’t heeded by all and the Cowboys are now reeling after losing for the first time when having a 14-point lead entering the fourth quarter.

Football is a game of inches. Until the Cowboys master all the small details, expect them to keep tripping over their own feet.
