Is this NFC team the next stop for star CB Jalen Ramsey?

Are the Cowboys the next stop for Jalen Ramsey?

NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero reported the Rams had trade talks about Ramsey. According to Spotrac, Los Angeles is $14.5M over the cap. If the Rams trade the six-time Pro Bowler, they can save $5.6M-$17M, depending on if it’s before or after the June 1 deadline, per Over the Cap.

Per The Athletic’s Jeff Howe, “there’s a rumor picking up steam” that the Cowboys are the best trade partner for Ramsey. The Cowboys CB room needs depth since Anthony Brown is a free agent, and Jourdan Lewis will enter the final year of his contract in 2023.

Pairing the 28-year-old with two-time Pro Bowl CB Trevon Diggs would form one of the best tandems in the league. Ramsey ranked second in pass deflections (18) in 2022, while Diggs (14) tied for 12th.

The Cowboys can use their 2023 first-round pick (No. 26 overall) as a potential piece because the Rams have no first-round selections.

The obstacle is cap space. Dallas, like Los Angeles, is over the cap by $18.7M, per Spotrac. Ramsey has three years remaining on his deal and is due $55.5M, according to OTC.

Furthermore, Dallas might prioritize strengthening its receiving corps. The Cowboys ranked 18th in receiving yards, while their passing defense ranked eighth in yards allowed.

Yet, after winning 24 regular-season games over the past two seasons — tied with Buffalo for second most — Dallas is arguably one elite piece away from Super Bowl contention. As such, it should stretch the budget for Ramsey.
