Grizzlies’ Ty Jerome recruits Trey Murphy III after undefeated start to 2026-27

The trade speculation around Trey Murphy III is getting a hot new update. Memphis Grizzlies’ Ty Jerome appears to be interested in adding him as another talented scorer to the team.

Jerome took to social media on Friday to jokingly recruit the New Orleans Pelicans star after the team shared a photo dump on Instagram.

“streets said you coming to the grizz,” Jerome commented under Murphy’s post.

The exchange came as Memphis continued its undefeated start to the 2026-27 season. Jerome’s comment was likely made in jest, but it added to an already heating-up trade market for the youngster.

The Grizzlies are among several teams reportedly monitoring the Pelicans’ situation. A report from ClutchPoints’ Chris Dodson on Friday included Memphis among the franchises keeping an eye on New Orleans’ potential trade options.

Murphy has been involved in trade rumors for an extended period, but the Pelicans have shown little urgency to move him. New Orleans views the forward as an important part of its plans and would need a significant offer to consider parting ways with him.

His production has also changed early this season. Murphy averaged 21.5 points per game last year but is currently scoring 14.2 points per game. He is also taking roughly four fewer shots and attempting two fewer 3-pointers per game.

However, Murphy remains capable of producing big scoring performances when given opportunities. He recorded 26 points against the Denver Nuggets after attempting 17 shots, showing what he can contribute when he stays aggressive.

The reduced role has added to the outside speculation, particularly with New Orleans having more players available as the roster gets healthier. Still, the season is only beginning, and the team is adjusting to a new offense and different responsibilities.
