GM Trent Baalke: Jaguars will ‘worry about’ Tim Tebow ‘when the draft is over’

Reports that former NFL quarterback Tim Tebow, who turns 34 years old in August and hasn’t played in a regular-season game since 2012, worked out as a tight end with the Jacksonville Jaguars were confirmed by Jaguars general manager Trent Baalke.

What that means for the situation moving forward is anybody’s guess.

Per John Reid of the Florida Times-Union, Tebow reached out to the Jaguars for an opportunity to play under head coach Urban Meyer, who was Tebow’s coach at the University of Florida.

“He did come in for a workout several weeks ago or whatever that was,” Baalke said of the 2007 Heisman Trophy winner. “He worked out as a tight end and that’s the position he’ll be playing. Right now, where it stands, we’re going to get through the draft and our whole focus, quite honestly, has been on the draft. We’ll worry about that when the draft is over.”

Jacksonville selected Clemson Tigers superstar quarterback Trevor Lawrence first overall in the 2021 NFL Draft on Thursday night, and it’s rumored Tebow could become the Jaguars’ new Swiss Army Knife option similar to Taysom Hill of the New Orleans Saints.

BetOnline.ag lists Tebow as an underdog to return to the NFL this year, but the odds for seeing him back on the field in September aren’t as astronomical as one may immediately think.
