Endless rain leads to alligator sightings in South Texas towns

On Thursday, June 8, Amanda Sutterfield Wilson posted a short video of an alligator spotted in the water taking over Rockport streets and roads. The city has been dealing with damaging flooding due to the heavy rainfall in Texas.

Wilson wasn’t the only one to see a gator on Thursday. The Aransas National Wildlife Refuge also uploaded a clip of an alligator slowly crossing the road in front of its entrance. The refuge is about 48 miles northeast of Rockport.

The alligator didn’t seem to mind the rain as it later turned around and ate a frog.

According to its website, alligators aren’t strangers at the refuge, and visitors can spot them while walking the trails on the property. In Texas, the American alligator ranges from the Sabine River of East Texas to the Gulf of Mexico across the coastal marshes to the Rio Grande and west to around Interstate 35.

Their range encompasses about 120 Texas counties with the highest concentration along the Gulf Coastal Plains.

Meanwhile, in Montgomery County, near Houston, officers relocated a 7-foot alligator after it nearly got hit on a roadway. According to KHOU11, deputies helped load the 300-pound gator in the back of a Texas Game Warden’s truck. It was transported to the Wildlife Refuge in Anahuac.
