East Central ISD middle school threat leads to arrest

East Central Independent School District said it is aware of the viral social media post made with shooting threats toward middle school students. The district told MySA officials sent an email and phone call to the entire district community Monday, February 6.

The district said it was made aware of the social media threat toward Heritage Middle School on Saturday, February 4. The post included threats targeting the campus on Tuesday, February 7.

With tips and support from the community, East Central ISD, campus administration, and local enforcement apprehended a suspect that has not been publicly identified. However, East Central ISD said details of the investigation cannot be shared as it is considered an open investigation by the San Antonio Police Department.

The suspect will face consequences according to the Texas Education Code and the Texas Penal Code, the district said.

“We appreciate the outpouring of support from the community. Together, our vigilance continues to keep our kids safe,” East Central ISD stated in its alert to the community. “We want to remind all that a digital footprint can be traced, whether the individual’s social media accounts are fake or not. Social media use and monitoring is a shared responsibility; even when ‘joking,’ every threat and communication is treated seriously.”

The district said it is providing additional counseling and support to campuses for the remainder of the week.

Officials reminded its community to report anything they see or hear at its hotline at (210)709-8080.
