Charlotte Scores Twice in Two Minutes; Eliminates Dynamo of Leagues Cup

In front of their fans, the Houston Dynamo were eliminated from the Leagues Cup in a disappointing way by Charlotte FC. Two minutes was all the visitors needed to score twice and punched their ticket to the Leagues Cup Quarterfinals where they will face Messi and Inter Miami.

The Dynamo took an early lead when Nelson Quinonez escaped a defender and crossed the ball to find Corey Baird inside the box for the partial 1-0 at the 10th minute.

After the goal, both teams had chances to score goals. Houston missed some key chances throughout the match but could not double the lead. On the other hand, Charlotte had just a couple of chances, but Dynamo’s goalkeeper Steve Clark was a factor in the match with a couple of saves until the 80th minute when Patrick Agyemang took advantage of a long pass and scored the equalizer. Only a minute later, Houston’s defender Micael tried to pass the ball to his goalkeeper, but instead, his pass ended up inside his own goal for the final 2-1.

A strange result after all. This match served as a big disappointment for a Dynamo team, that has been strong at home and lost it in an unexpected way. And too much of a reward for a Charlotte squad, that barely attack and control the ball during the 90 minutes.

Now Houston needs to concentrate in the MLS season as well as the US Open Cup Semifinal, whereas Charlotte will visit Miami to battle for a spot in the semifinals of the L
