First responders in the San Antonio area are searching for a driver that veered into the Guadalupe River off of the Interstate 10 bridge early Thursday morning.

On Thursday, February 9, at around 2 a.m., Seguin police received a call about a vehicle on Interstate 10 that was speeding when it lost control and “tumbled” into the Guadalupe River. The driver was headed eastbound on the Guadalupe River bridge.

Seguin Public Information Officer Jennifer Sourdellia told MySA in an email that the driver hit the highway guardrail and continued off the bridge. She said that the witness, who was behind the driver, confirmed seeing the vehicle going into the Guadalupe River.

“[The] reporting party was behind the vehicle,” Sourdellia said. “They stated the vehicle was driving at a high rate of speed, lost control, and went over a guardrail. It appears that the vehicle then tumbled down an embankment and went into the water.”

She said that the make of the car is unknown at this time and also it is unknown about how many people are in the vehicle. The Seguin police and fire departments are looking for the driver and New Braunfels Fire Department’s dive team is en route to the scene.

“It is presumed an occupant is still inside the vehicle, but we won’t know for certain until a dive team from the New Braunfels Fire Department arrives on scene to assist,” Sourdellia said.

This is a developing story.
