Bayern chairman’s brother believes club can get Man City winger Leroy Sane ‘at bargain price £44m’

Former Bayern Munich striker and brother of the club’s chairman Michael Rummenigge believes they could get Manchester City‘s Leroy Sane at a ‘bargain price’ this summer.

Sane has been linked with a move to the Bundesliga club for some time, however, an anterior cruciate ligament injury he picked up against Liverpool in August in the Community Shield final has ruled him out of the entire 2019/20 season to date.

Bayern have been preparing to pay big money to bring Sane to the club, but Rummenigge believes they could now sign him for around ‘£44million’.

‘Bayern would have bought him for 100 to 120 million euros (£87-105million) before the cruciate ligament rupture, an obligation could now be significantly cheaper and maybe only cost 50 million (£44million),’ he wrote in his ‘Sportbuzzer’ column, via Sport Bild.

Manchester City are facing a potential two-year ban from UEFA competitions due to violations in financial fair play laws. It is believed several of the club’s star players could leave in the summer if the ban is enforced.

Michael, the younger brother of Karl-Heinze, added: ‘Sane’s contract with Manchester City ends in 2021, after which he would be free of charge.

Rummenigge believes the injury and coronavirus pandemic could see them get a bargain

‘If the European Cup lock for City persists, this club will also need money at some point in times of Corona (coronavirus) to pay its salaries.

‘Possible new injections of money by the Sheikh are under special scrutiny after the violations of financial fair play that are in the room.’

The coronavirus pandemic had seen reports that many clubs would not pay big money this summer due to the financial strain of the virus spreading.

The winger is continuing to stall on signing a new deal at City, which could either see him be cashed in on this summer or cut free at the end of next season as a free transfer.
