The Philadelphia 76ers might have added star power this offseason, but to win a championship, they’re going to need consistent depth and production from their role players. To that end, the 76ers have gotten strong bench play from Anfernee Simons, who reached a big mark in NBA history during the team’s win against the Charlotte Hornets, as per Kris Rhim of ESPN.
In the 76ers’ win, Anfernee Simons became the first NBA bench player since Malik Beasley in 2024 to have made five or more 3-pointers in three consecutive games. Against the Hornets, Simons hit five 3-pointers in nine attempts (55.5 percent). He finished with 19 points, two assists and three steals in 25 minutes of play.
Simons signed with the 76ers in the offseason via free agency after splitting last season between the Boston Celtics and Chicago Bulls. Through the 76ers’ first six games of the season, he’s been a big part of why they started out 5-1 coming into the game against the Hornets.
He had played in all six games coming into Saturday’s matchup, at a little over 24 minutes per game. He was averaging 10.8 points, 2.3 rebounds and 1.2 assists with splits of 41.5 percent shooting from the field, 41 percent shooting from the 3-point line and 71.4 percent shooting from the free-throw line.
The No. 24 overall pick in the 2018 NBA Draft, Simons began his career with the Portland Trail Blazers. He played the first seven seasons of his career with the Blazers before being included in a trade with the Celtics in the same deal that brought Jrue Holiday to Portland.
