A school bus from Abilene Independent School District was shot at by a suspected air gun rifle while children were getting off on Monday, January 23, according to the Abilene Police Department. The school bus was taking about 25 children home from school, the Abilene Police Department said in a Facebook post.

Police were called to the scene just after 4 p.m. after Abilene ISD called stating that one of their bus drivers, who was taking kids home from school on their normal route, was reportedly hit by some type of projectile.

Officials believe the bus was hit by a pellet or BB gun. The BB or pellet is said to have damaged a window on the bus but did not enter the bus.

The children on the bus notified the driver that at least one student was hit by glass and was injured, but received minor injuries only, police said. The driver stopped near the normal bus stop and the children were let off and reunited with family.

No one on the bus required transportation to a hospital after being assessed by first responders and health services personnel.

Two juveniles in the area were questioned about the incident, according to the Abilene Police Department. The department is working with the school district to ensure the safety of students and believes this was an isolated incident.
