Jurgen Klopp’s disappointing start continues as Germany held by Greece

Jurgen Klopp has endured a disappointing start as Germany manager.

The former Liverpool boss fielded an attacking lineup against Greece on Sunday, aiming to secure back-to-back wins.

But Ivan Jovanović’s men frustrated their highly rated European opposition to play out a goalless draw at the Toumba Stadium.

Despite recording more than 70 percent possession and registering 21 shots, Germany failed to breach Greece’s resolute defence.

Fotis Ioannidis forced Jonas Urgbig into a decent save early in the game, but it was largely one-way traffic from there.

The visitors kept up the pressure but could not find a way past goalkeeper Konstantinos Tzolakis, who made four crucial saves.

Germany thought they had broken the deadlock just past the half-hour mark when Jonathan Burkhardt put the ball into the back of the net.

But the goal was chalked off after a VAR review spotted a handball by Tom Bischof in the build-up.

The latest result means Klopp has won just one of his first four matches since taking charge of Germany following the 2026 World Cup.

Die Mannschaft began their Nations League campaign with a 1-1 draw at Netherlands.

They subsequently suffered a shock 1-0 defeat to Greece in front of their home crowd.

Germany bounced back with a 2-0 success over Serbia but endured a frustrating end to the international break after Sunday’s draw at Greece.
