15-year-old shot, killed during West Side San Antonio shooting identified by family

The shooting took place in the 2000 block of Alston Street, near Gilbert Garza Park and Gregorio Esparza Elementary School. San Antonio police chief William McManus said Soto went down the street to meet someone. Relatives told Telemundo that Soto left his house to visit another teen who owed him money.

McManus said an argument ensued, which led to Soto being shot. Police said Soto was transported to a nearby hospital, where he later died.

“We’ve got a young man that went to meet somebody, an altercation developed, and he was shot, which is happening way too often in the city here,” McManus said. “People are settling disputes, whatever the dispute may be, with gunfire.”

On Monday, police detained one person for questioning and were looking for another person. SAPD has not released more information about the shooting suspect or the firearm used in the shooting. However, McManus did tweet on Monday that the shooter was another teenager.

“Stop settling these arguments with a firearm,” McManus said to the media on Monday. “I don’t understand why it’s happening. It’s a new way to settle arguments.”
