Report: Tim Duncan to be nominated for the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame

Was there ever any doubt?

The finalists for the 2020 Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame class are going to be announced today, and to no one’s surprise, Spurs legend Tim Duncan is reportedly a lock to make it, along with fellow legends/rivals Kobe Bryant and Kevin Garnett.

Other eligible candidates for the three NBA spots include former Spur Michael Finley, Shawn Marion, and Chris Bosh. The rule for NBA players to become eligible for the HOF was recently changed from five to three years after retirement.

This should be the start of a three-candidates-in-four-years stretch for the Spurs, as Manu Ginobili and Tony Parker become eligible in 2021 and 2022, respectively. Gregg Popovich should also be inducted eventually. He could have already been enshrined but has always insisted he wants to wait until he retires.

Congrats to Big Fun! Surely all Spurs fans will be watching this summer.
