We don’t see the grin very often any more.

On Sunday, December 8, 1996, San Antonio Spurs head coach Bob Hill unknowingly coached his final game. Two days later, Gregg Popovich informed the players that Bob Hill had been fired. And four days after that, on December 14, newly self-appointed head coach Gregg Popovich won his first NBA game with the Spurs.

Check out that excitement. And the Spurs beat the Dallas Mavericks no less, which makes the historical relevance all the sweeter.

The last game the Spurs played this season also ended in a win for Gregg Popovich against the Dallas Mavericks. Hopefully, this was not the last time it happens.

The suspension due to the COVID-19 pandemic continues, but we here at Pounding the Rock march on. I’m looking out for classic moments in Spurs history, hopefully some Hardwood Classics on NBA TV. So share your thoughts on the Spurs of today, tomorrow, and yesteryear.
