Open Thread: LaMarcus selected by Team LeBron in All-Star Draft

The Spurs big will team up with James and Kawhi Leonard in next weekend’s main event. And no, he didn’t go last.

In an event with mercifully little build-up and plenty of levity, LeBron James took the SpursLaMarcus Aldridge with the 18th pick in the 2019 All-Star Draft.

Last year, the NBA introduced a new All-Star format, doing away with conferences and allowing two team captains to hand-choose their squads. On Thursday night, the league televised the process for the first time, pulling away the curtain and allowing the public to witness who is picked when and read far too much into it.

Here’s the entire draft order:

1. LeBron: Kevin Durant

2. Giannis: Stephen Curry

3. LeBron: Kyrie Irving

4. Giannis: Joel Embiid

5. LeBron: Kawhi Leonard

6. Giannis: Paul George

7. LeBron: James Harden

8. Giannis: Kemba Walker

9. Giannis: Khris Middleton

10. LeBron: Anthony Davis

11. Giannis: Nikola Jokic

12. LeBron: Klay Thompson

13. Giannis: Ben Simmons

14. LeBron: Damian Lillard

15. Giannis: Blake Griffin

16. LeBron: Russell Westbrook

17. Giannis: D’Angelo Russell

18. LeBron: LaMarcus Aldridge

19. Giannis: Nikola Vucevic

20. LeBron: Karl-Anthony Towns

21. Giannis: Kyle Lowry

22. LeBron: Bradley Beal

23. LeBron: Dwyane Wade

24. Giannis: Dirk Nowitzki

And here’s a look at both rosters:

Immediately after choosing Aldridge, James joked, “Even though Pop is gonna tell me I can only play him two minutes.”

This will be the 7th career All-Star appearance for Aldridge, who will also be reunited with former teammate Kawhi Leonard, taken by James with his third pick.
