Wurstfest is getting ready for this year’s event after a fire caused extensive damage to the 10-day celebration’s main facilities.

The official Facebook page for the event shared the newest renderings for Marketplatz, which was destroyed in a November 2019 blaze, days after the annual event wrapped up. Wursthalle was also damaged in the fire. Officials estimated damages to be $50,000 at the time, and Marketplatz was ruled a total loss.

Renderings posted on April 10 show what’s to come in November. The renderings of Marketplatz shows more of an open-air concept, while the original building was enclosed. Organizers were not immediately available to comment, but posts on the Facebook page say construction will be completed in time for the start of Wurstfest’s 60th anniversary on Nov. 6.

The cause of the fire was undetermined, but investigators didn’t rule out a faulty light bulb or the storage of combustibles near a heat-producing item, according to the New Braunfels Herald-Zeitung.

Staff members were inside the structure at the time of the fire, but all escaped without injury.

Wurstfest brings in thousands of visitors each fall to celebrate German culture with food, drinks and music in New Braunfels, about 30 minutes outside of San Antonio.
