Woman arrested, charged with murder in the fatal shooting of her partner

Maria Delrosario Mendez, 52, was arrested and charged with murder after deputies say she shot a man who was later found dead outside of a Somerset residence on Friday, according to the Bexar County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies say they discovered Jose Tellez, 32, with multiple gunshot wounds to his upper torso in the driveway of the residence on the 8000 block of 3rd Street in Somerset about 8:30 a.m. Officials say Tellez died at the scene.

The shooting occurred outside of the home where Mendez and Tellez, who were in a relationship, lived together, deputies said.

The couple’s three children, the oldest of whom is 13 years old, were home during the shooting. The children are safe, Bexar County Sheriff Javier Salazar said, and the local school district and Child Protective Services were notified.

Mendez was charged with first-degree murder. Bond was set at $150,000.
