Why Wolves called off their pursuit of Lille’s Renato Sanches, deal for Boubacar Kamara being worked on
An explanation for Wolves not signing Lille midfielder Renato Sanches has been forthcoming on Tuesday evening.
Wolves linked with Sanches
Renato Sanches would join Lille in August of 2019 on the back of a fairly poor spell with Bayern Munich, which also included an awful loan stint with Swansea City.
However, since moving to France, Sanches has rediscovered some of his best form that had previously led to Bayern buying him as a youngster back in 2016.
The now 24-year-old has featured 60 times for Lille, scoring five goals and providing five assists.
Sanches, of course, would also play a key role in helping Lille end PSG’s dominance over Ligue 1 last term.
And, on Monday, it was reported that there was a confidence that Wolves could loan Sanches from Lille on Tuesday:
Details to be sorted but there’s a confidence that Wolves can sign Renato Sanches on loan from Lille tomorrow as per @alex_crook

Why Sanches deal fell through
However, earlier on Tuesday, it was then claimed that Wolves had ended talks with Lille for the Portuguese midfielder.

And now, an explanation for why Wolves pulled the plug on the deal has been forthcoming online.
As per The Athletic’s Tim Spiers:
Sanches’ problematic injury issues, with the 24-year-old sidelined after undergoing knee surgery two weeks ago, are considered too prohibitive for a deal to go ahead.
Spiers adds that Wolves are said to have moved on to other targets in the hope of bringing someone in before tonight’s deadline.

And that player looks to be Marseille man Boubacar Kamara:
🚨 Wolves are working on a deal to sign highly-rated Marseille midfielder Boubacar Kamara. Would be permanent as 21yo has only a year to left terms. #WWFC have also made bid for an unnamed striker prior to tonight’s deadline @TheAthleticUK #DeadlineDay #OM https://t.co/bjGdGuHI0n
