When will it be the ‘right time’ for Raiders TE Darren Waller?

Where in the world is Darren Waller? Las Vegas has been wondering when its star tight end will return. Waller, a former Pro Bowler, hasn’t played since Week 5 after suffering a hamstring injury.

Head coach Josh McDaniels addressed Waller’s injury in a Wednesday news conference. However, his muddled answer made matters more perplexing.

“We’re just trying to let his body tell us when the right time is,” he said.

Is McDaniels trying to mystify the Colts? He could be concealing Waller’s status throughout the week until they play on Sunday, or Waller’s not recovering from the injury.

Hamstring injuries vary in severity, from a couple of weeks to a season-ending injury. (For more on hamstring injuries click here)

After missing three straight games, it appears that’s he not making progress. He was limited in practice in Week 8 and Week 9. McDaniels didn’t specify how much he will practice this week.

Waller’s durability is becoming a concern. Last year he missed six games with a knee injury. The former Pro Bowler is 30 years old, marking a point where injuries can derail a talented player’s career.

Hopefully, for the Raiders, this won’t be the case for Waller.
