West Ham are preparing to firm up their interest in Chelsea‘s Armando Broja after beginning their summer spending with the capture of defender Nayef Aguerd.

Centre-back Aguerd joined the London Stadium club for £30m from Rennes on Monday and West Ham value striker Broja in a similar region.

The Hammers are readying their opening offer for Broja in the hope of stealing a march in the race to sign the 20 year-old, who impressed on loan at Southampton last season.

The Albanian frontman has also attracted interest from other Premier League clubs, including Leicester, and also Italian sides such as Napoli.

However, Chelsea’s own takeover transition period has represented an obstacle to Broja’s admirers hopes of concluding a swift deal.

Todd Boehly and Clearlake Capital only completed their £4.25bn purchase of the club at the end of last month which has led to significant changes at board level at Stamford Bridge

Key director Marina Granovskaia who has led Chelsea’s transfer business under former owner Roman Abramovich is also expected to depart following confirmation on Monday that Bruce Buck will step down as chairman.

Boehly and manager Thomas Tuchel are due to take control of the key recruitment decisions when Granovskaia leaves.

West Ham have been looking for an alternative option to Michail Antonio to spearhead their attack for some time and feel Broja will fit the bill.

Broja scored nine times in 38 appearances for Southampton last season in his first loan at Premier League level.

The season before, in his first taste of regular senior football, he scored 11 times in 34 appearances during a temporary spell at Vitesse Arnhem in Holland.

Broja has also been capped 14 times for his country, scoring four times.
