WATCH: Lonnie Walker treats Spurs fans to two poster dunks in opener

The new-look San Antonio Spurs had quite a season-opener in Memphis, with Lonnie Walker’s poster dunks being just two of many highlights.

Gregg Popovich showed right away that he’s not trying to repeat last season’s disappointing finish. Going with a starting lineup of LaMarcus Aldridge, DeMar DeRozan, Dejounte Murray, Keldon Johnson, and Lonnie Walker, the San Antonio Spurs had a fresh look in more ways than just their fiesta jerseys in Memphis.

The wager on the youth movement paid off, as the Spurs rushed out to a 66-53 lead on the back of huge halves from Johnson and Murray. In the third quarter, Lonnie decided to make his own mark on the game with a tomahawk jam.

As I was preparing this post to showcase his slam, Walker was already in the air throwing down his second emphatic dunk of the game. Clearly, the Spurs’ improved pace is already paying dividends for the better athletes on the team, with Lonnie being the most athletic of them all.

It was not even three minutes later that Walker found himself in the open court, and to say he knew what to do with the ball would be an understatement.

Walker’s powerful dunks were a fraction of his total 16 points as the Spurs cruised to a 131-119 win at the FedEx Forum. There’s a reason Lonnie dominated my hand-picked list of the top 10 Spurs’ plays of the 2019-20 season, and it looks like he’s already well on his way to making his case for next season’s.

With more minutes comes more with responsibility, and with more responsibility will come more earth-shattering dunks.
