Members of the Uvalde City Council are meeting on Tuesday evening to discuss a variety of different topics.
The meeting begins at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, April 2, at the Uvalde City Hall Council Chambers.
The meeting comes a day after Cody Smith resigned as mayor of Uvalde. Smith had been elected to office in a specially called election in November to replace Don McLaughlin.
Smith’s sudden resignation came after Uvalde Police Chief Daniel Rodriguez announced his resignation on March 12, which goes into effect on Friday.
Some items on Tuesday’s meeting agenda include a request for outside-the-city utility services, consideration for a local state of disaster due to the current immigration crisis, and consideration for engineering and surveying services for the proposed Uvalde Regional Behavioral Health Crisis Center.
The independent investigation into the Robb Elementary School shooting is not scheduled to be addressed by the council, but families of victims and survivors have said they will not be letting this go.
At the last meeting in Uvalde, former Mayor Smith asked the families to give him more time with the independent investigation conducted by Austin-area investigator Jesse Prado.
The report by Prado found that all Uvalde police officers should be exonerated of wrongdoing for their actions on May 24 at Robb Elementary. The report led to outrage from the families of victims and survivors.
Since then, the report has not been addressed by elected leaders in Uvalde.
