Watch: Justin Tucker’s 67-yard FG attempt falls short after Ravens blow another lead
Justin Tucker just needed another couple of yards.
His 67-yard field goal attempt on Sunday fell just short as time expired in the Baltimore Ravens’ 28-27 loss to the Jacksonville Jaguars.
It was a valiant effort and one that most kickers would not even get to attempt. But Tucker is the best to ever do it and already has a 66-yard game-winner on his resume, so you can understand why Ravens coach John Harbaugh even gave him the opportunity.
For a minute, it looked like he had a chance.
The bigger concern for the Ravens, though, is that this was another game where they blew a big second-half lead and turned what looked like a sure win into a loss. It is a trend that keeps happening this season.
Baltimore had a nine-point lead with under seven minutes to play, but self-destructed by allowing a Jacksonville touchdown to cut the deficit to two points, starting the ensuing drive on its own six-yard line, and then fumbling the ball away on the first offensive snap. That set up a go-ahead field for the Jaguars to give them a 20-19 lead.
Lamar Jackson and the Ravens offense quickly responded with a touchdown drive of its own to regain the lead, aided by a huge 65-yard play to DeSean Jackson.
But with only one timeout remaining Trevor Lawrence drove the Jaguars down the field for a touchdown and game-winning two-point conversion with just 14 seconds remaining.
The Ravens had a chance after a squib kick and one passing play to midfield, but Tucker’s kick fell short.
This is the fourth time this season the Ravens have lost a game in which they have led by at least two scores in the second half.
Earlier this season they blew a 35-14 fourth-quarter lead to the Miami Dolphins, lost a 20-3 lead to the Buffalo Bills, and then lost a 20-10 fourth-quarter lead to the New York Giants.
It is a problem that keeps creeping in for them. The Ravens are now tied for first place in the AFC North with the Cincinnati Bengals.
