Warren Moon: Raiders could use Colin Kaepernick like Cam Newton, Tim Tebow

Arguably the biggest NFL quarterback news of the week had to do with somebody who last took a meaningful snap in the league during the 2016 season.

Former San Francisco 49ers starter Colin Kaepernick recently had a workout with the Las Vegas Raiders that reportedly went well but, per Jeremy Fowler of ESPN, has not yet guaranteed Kaepernick a contract.

It’s been said that multiple clubs were interested in the 34-year-old before his session with the Raiders, but Hall of Famer Warren Moon seemingly believes current Las Vegas head coach Josh McDaniels may be able to get the best out of the veteran.

McDaniels worked with former college superstar Tim Tebow and one-time NFL Most Valuable Player Cam Newton while serving as offensive coordinator with the New England Patriots. Moon told TMZ Sports he envisions McDaniels using Kaepernick in a similar “dual-threat” fashion.

“[McDaniels] knows how to work with that type of quarterback,” Moon explained. “Maybe there’s a package of plays that he can put in that help the Raiders, maybe in game-time situations.”

Moon also pointed out that current Raiders backups Jarrett Stidham and Nick Mullens are unproven commodities at absolute best.

“If you look at the backups they have right now, they don’t have a whole lot of experience as far as game time,” Moon added during his comments. “So, I think it makes a lot of sense to bring him in and take a look and see what he’s still got left.”

Time will tell if any team agrees with Moon’s expert assessment.
