Was Martial’s goal even the best of that particular game? We’ve become accustomed to Mason’s pinpoint precision when he finds time and space on the edge of the box, but this effort, to cap off a superb 3-0 home win, was particularly special – glancing off the crossbar on its way in. Bonus points too, for the teenager’s driving role in the build-up, including a spectacular body-swerve to deceive Etienne Capoue.

McTominay didn’t have to wait too long for his first goal after returning from a two-month injury lay-off – and what a strike it was! Brugge may have sloppily given the ball away on their right-hand side, but when he received it 18 yards out, our homegrown hero made no mistake, almost passing it in, leaving former Liverpool keeper Simon Mignolet standing still.
