Video: Arsenal sensation Charlie Patino nets solo stunner vs Man United U23s/Balogun at the double
Footage of Arsenal starlet Charlie Patino rounding out the scoring in the club’s downing of Manchester United’s U23s has gone viral online this evening.
Who is Patino?
Patino, 17, is currently carving his path through the youth ranks of Premier League giants Arsenal.
The starlet is a midfielder by trade, boasting a whole range of standout technical attributes.
After beginning to catch the eye with the Gunners’ U18s last season, Patino, despite his tender years, was subsequently called up to feature for the club’s U23s, in the Premier League 2.
And the months since have only seen the Englishman go from strength to strength, amid suggestions that Patino is not just one of, but THE most promising talent currently plying his trade on the red half of North London.
This is certainly an opinion shared by the man who proved the deciding voice in luring the teen to the capital early in his fledgling career, with Brian Stapleton, Gunners scout, having recently provided an insight into Patino’s talents:
‘Of all the years I’ve been scouting, he’s the best kid I’ve ever seen.’
‘I got a tip off about Charlie from a guy, so I went over there and I couldn’t believe what I was seeing. He was 11 and I think he was playing in the Under-13s, and I was like ‘wow’.’
‘His first touch was unbelievable, his vision, his awareness of space. He was way above his years, he was on another planet to anyone else on the pitch.’
‘I made a phone call to my head of my department at Arsenal at the time, Sean O’Connor. He asked what I thought and I said, ‘well, I’m not coming back again. I don’t need to see any more, you need to sign this kid straight away.’

United stunner
And, as outlined above, such abilities were on full display once again this weekend.
On Saturday evening, Arsenal’s U23s welcomed Manchester United to Meadow Park, for a highly anticipated Premier League 2 showdown.
The hosts, in turn, went on to secure a deserved 3-1 victory, making it three wins from four to open out the new campaign.
And despite Folarin Balogun, of course well known to the Arsenal faithful, having proven crucial in netting a brace, it was that man Patino who ultimately went on to steal the show.
A 3-1 victory for #AFCU23 over Manchester United 👏

As the clash rolled into injury time, the 17-year-old rounded out the scoring in spectacular fashion.
Showcasing all of his impressive talents, Patino first won the ball back with a fine challenge, before skipping beyond a series of defenders with wonderful balance and close control.
And even better was the midfielder’s ensuing finish, a delicate chip beyond the helpless Dean Henderson, labelled as ‘simply stunning’ by Arsenal’s social media team on Sunday night:
