Both first-overall picks met for the first time on Thursday night in Chicago.

Thursday night marked an unexpected turn for Victor Wembanyama, delivering his least impressive performance of the season scoring 7 points and 4 rebounds in 22 minutes of play. Fortunately, there are more engaging topics to delve into on this Friday morning. Prior to their games in Chicago, a unique encounter unfolded between the top picks of the NHL and NBA. Connor Bedard and Victor Wembanyama crossed paths for the first time, creating an entertaining interaction between the two.

The remarkable disparity in height between these two rookies was comical: Victor towering at 7’4” compared to Connor’s 5’10”. Despite this contrast, they spent quality time together, taking shots at a net. In a video clip, Wembanyama’s hockey stick seemed to match, if not surpass, Bedard’s stature.

Beyond their evident size difference, both young athletes found common ground in their inaugural seasons. Wemby confessed to a lack of familiarity with hockey, admitting he hadn’t watched a complete game.

Despite his limited exposure to the sport, he shares the enthusiasm for the intensity, much like many of us. After all, it’s one of the few sports that permit such a physical aspect. Overall, this PR move showcasing the meeting between the two first-overall picks was a clever move. I’m all for more of these engaging encounters in the future.
