Update on Kieran Tierney’s status for Man United clash following absence vs Southampton

An insight into the fitness problem being dealt with by Arsenal defender Kieran Tierney, and, in turn, his potential availability to feature versus Manchester United this weekend, has been forthcoming online this evening.

Arsenal back in action

Mikel Arteta’s men are of course currently locked in the early exchanges of a meeting with Southampton.

The Gunners made the trip to St. Mary’s with revenge on their minds, having actually been ousted from the FA Cup by the Saints just days ago.

This brought to an end a fine spell of form on Arsenal’s part, which had seen the north Londoners rattle off 5 wins from 6 across all competitions.

Southampton, though, as evidenced on Saturday, will prove no pushovers for Mikel Arteta’s men.

The Saints themselves have now managed 3 wins from 4 between the FA Cup and Premier League, a run which included the aforementioned downing of their opponents this evening, and a thoroughly impressive 1-0 victory over champions Liverpool.

Tierney latest

As such, it came as little surprise when, ahead of kick-off at St. Mary’s, Arteta opted to restore the likes of Thomas Partey, Alexandre Lacazette and Emile Smith Rowe to his starting XI:

One key Gunners performer, as showcased above, however, to have missed out on not only a place in the visitors’ starting XI, but their matchday squad altogether, is Kieran Tierney.

Scottish international Tierney has missed two of Arsenal’s last 3 outings, as he attempts to recover full fitness amid a problem with his right calf.

In turn, his latest absence this evening has since resulted in inevitable concern amongst the club’s fanbase, regarding the stopper’s availability for this weekend.

The capital giants are set to welcome table-topping Manchester United to the Emirates on Saturday, for a highly anticipated showdown.

If the latest word doing the rounds online is anything to go by, however, then the Arsenal faithful need not fret.

As per the reliable Sam Dean of the Telegraph, Tierney’s injury is ‘nothing serious’, with the former Celtic man expected to be available for selection this weekend:
