U21 Euros: Jones and Elliott help England qualify for quarter-finals, victory for Jaros

Curtis Jones and Harvey Elliott helped England advance to the quarter-finals of the U21 European Championship on Sunday evening.

The Young Lions defeated Israel 2-0 in Kutaisi, Georgia to make it two wins from two in Group C and secure a place in the knockout rounds, which start on July 1. 

Jones started the contest for Lee Carsley’s side and played the entirety, with Elliott stepping off the bench for the final 20 minutes. Anthony Gordon and Emile Smith Rowe were the goalscorers. 

Elsewhere in the group, Vitezslav Jaros starred for Czechia in their 2-1 victory over holders Germany. 

The Liverpool goalkeeper made a number of crucial saves throughout the win, and his nation now sit in second place ahead of a meeting with Israel on matchday three.
