TxDOT reports most Texas Hill Country roads covered in ice, delays expected

TxDOT is showing Interstate 10,  just 10 minutes north of Boerne, is covered with ice through Comfort, Kerrville, and Junction. The ice on Interstate 10 goes all the way to Fort Stockton. Boerne communications director Chris Shadrock gave an update on the weather conditions in Boerne on February 1.

“Roads are just wet, luckily it’s been so warm that the ground is keeping the roads pretty passable right now,” he said in a social media video. “Bridges and overpasses are the main areas of concern that we are worried about in terms of travelers. We are encouraging people to stay home.”

Ice-covered roads on Highway 281 begin at the intersection of Highway 281 and Farm to Market Road 306, which is just past Spring Branch through Blanco. Highway 290 is covered with ice which will affect Johnson City, Marble Falls, and Burnet drivers.

TxDOT is reporting that all roads in Fredericksburg, Highway 87, Highway 290, State Highway 16, FM 1631, and Ranch Road 965 are covered with ice. The Fredericksburg Emergency Management Office has noted fire, emergency medical services, and police have been going out on calls about accidents with dispatch receiving calls about cars sliding off roads.

The post states, “We are asking that folks stay home and avoid all non-essential travel again today.”

Interstate 35 is seeing icy roads after Hunter, which is 15 minutes north of New Braunfels. The icy roads continue through Buda. San Marcos roads affected by ice include Interstate 35, Ranch Road 12, Texas 80, and Texas Highway 123. 

In Kyle, ice is affecting Interstate 35, Farm to Market Road 150, Farm to Market Road 2770, and Farm to Market Road 1626. MySA reached out to TxDOT for comment.
