Two teens injured in reported shooting on San Antonio’s Northeast Side

Update at 4:35 p.m. on Tuesday, November 1:

In a news briefing, Salazar said the shooting started after two young men were fist-fighting for an unknown reason around 1:30 p.m. in the 8200 block of FM 78. During the fight, a white small sedan pulled up near the fight and started shooting at the two in the fight. Both of the combatants were struck, Salazar said.

The 15-year-old in the fight jumped into the white small sedan and was taken to a house near the shooting scene to be dropped off. Both the 15-year-old and the 18-year-old were taken to Brooke Army Medical Center by ambulance with injuries in the lower leg and lower back. Salazar said they are expected to survive the gunshot wounds.

Salazar said they believe the teen knows who was in the vehicle and plans on talking to him about the possible shooter. He said it’s a cause for concern that a 15-year-old wasn’t in school around that time. He added another worry is how there’s an upward trend of handguns being made readily available to young teens.

“At this point, not knowing anything about those weapons, it’s not going to surprise me one bit when later on down the road – if we are able to recover those weapons, we find that they were stolen to burglary of a vehicle in this area,” Salazar said. “It’s becoming a pretty common theme for us.”

The Bexar County Sheriff’s Office said deputies will be patrolling the area to look for the vehicle. If you have any information on the suspects involved in the shooting, please call BCSO at 210-335-6000.
