Troy Aikman thinks Cowboys need to add another weapon on offense

Hall of Fame quarterback (and current analyst) Troy Aikman thinks his former team needs to add a wide receiver before Tuesday’s NFL trade deadline to help put the team over the top.

Aikman told TMZ this week that he thinks Dallas is missing the presence that Amari Cooper used to provide, and that they need to give quarterback Dak Prescott more talent to work with. Cooper was traded to the Cleveland Browns this past offseason.

From TMZ:

“I do know you better have some offense in today’s NFL if you’re gonna win games,” the Hall of Fame QB tells us. “The way you have offense is you have weapons and you gotta have more than one or two.” “Could they use another weapon? Yeah,” he told us. “I think when they lost Amari Cooper this past year, he was a guy that definitely garnered some attention in coverage and it opened a lot of other things up.” “It would help them, for sure.”

Aikman did not make any specific suggestions on who the Cowboys should target, but there are a couple of big-name pass-catchers that could be available before Tuesday.

Several teams have expressed interest in Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver Chase Claypool, but the team is not going to give him away without getting a significant offer.

Houston’s Brandin Cooks and Carolina’s D.J. Moore also figure to be potential trade candidates given how much both teams have struggled and seem to be throwing in the towel on the season.

The Cowboys are currently 5-2 in a very tough NFC West as they compete with Philadelphia and the New York Giants for the top spot.

Ceedee Lamb and Noah Brown are the only two wide receivers on the team that have caught more than 10 passes this season.
