Transfer deals that could happen before deadline: Gareth Bale to Tottenham, Danny Rose to Newcastle

As the hours tick down until Friday’s 11pm deadline, clubs in the Premier League and beyond continue to scramble around for last-minute transfer deals.

It has been a quieter January than most, but all roads lead to a hectic finale as managers attempt to strengthen their squads.

Plenty of top clubs are still active and here, Sportsmail goes through all the big deals that could yet happen before the window slams shut…

Gareth Bale (Real Madrid)

Potential destination: Tottenham

Yes, Gareth Bale to Tottenham is one of those age-old rumours that seems to come around every window, but there is some truth in it: Spurs are keen on the deal.

The figures are, of course, huge and it would require some creativity from Daniel Levy.

That could well include player swaps or a loan deal, given Bale’s massive £350,000-a-week wage packet at the Bernabeu.

Olivier Giroud (Chelsea)

Potential destinations: Tottenham, Inter Milan, West Ham, Aston Villa

Olivier Giroud looks certain to be a player on the move before the calendars turn over to February, but where exactly he’ll go is as yet unclear. There are two top European clubs in for him in the form of Tottenham and Inter Milan, while West Ham and Aston Villa have also been mooted but are more unlikely.

The latest information on Inter Milan is that they’ve cooled interest in the Frenchman, while a previously rumoured move to Napoli also came to an end when they signed a new man in Matteo Politano.

Harry Kane’s injury at Spurs means they are in for a new striker, and with Levy giving Mourinho a small budget, Giroud has come more into the picture. Elsewhere, Barcelona were also linked to the player in the Spanish media, but I wouldn’t hold out too much hope on that one coming to fruition.

Nathan Ferguson (West Brom)

Potential destination: Crystal Palace

Palace have left it late again, but it looks like Nathan Ferguson could be the club’s long-term replacement for £50m man Aaron Wan-Bissaka. Full-back has been a problem position for the Eagles, with Martin Kelly filling in at right back of late, and central midfielder Jairo Riedewald performing admirably on the left.

Ferguson has been mightily impressive in his first full season in the Championship and has been stalling on signing a new contract with the Baggies. He is heading to Palace for a medical ahead of an initial £4m move.

Cedric Soares (Southampton)

Potential destinations: Arsenal

The Gunners are discussing a package of £5m for the Southampton right-back in a loan deal covering his wages before they can sign him for free in the summer.

Mikel Arteta wants to hand the Euro 2016 champion a four-year deal after the season ends and have him at his disposal for the remainer of this campaign.

Saints signed Soares for £4.7m from Sporting Lisbon in 2015 and are eager to recoup their money.

They have been in discussions with Arsenal over the transfer and the deal appears to have no impediments. Ralph Hasenhuttl’s side have already brought in Kyle Walker-Peters on loan as cover for the man heading for the exit.

Sander Berge (Genk)

Potential destination: Sheffield United

It would be quite a coup if Sheffield United can pull this one off. As it stands, discussions are still ongoing between the Blades and Genk, where Sander Berge has been impressing in the league and Champions League.

The fee would be around £27m, and Sportsmail understands that Genk have been pushing for a sale in which they can take the striker back on loan until the end of the season. Chris Wilder, meanwhile, wants to take the midfielder now.

Sheffield United also have alternative targets in the form of Olympiacos’ Mady Camara and Hoffenheim’s Florian Grillitsch.

Danny Rose (Tottenham)

Potential destination: Newcastle

Danny Rose had a heated exchange with Jose Mourinho at Tottenham’s training ground last week after being left out of the club’s squad to face Watford, and he wants out before the deadline.

Newcastle look like they are about to land the full back and it would most likely be a loan deal to tide the club over until the summer as he looks to try and force his way into England’s Euro 2020 squad.

There would need to be a discussion regarding wages, but it is expected there would be a compromise to suit all parties.

Nathaniel Clyne (Liverpool)

Potential destination: West Brom

It’s fair to say that Nathaniel Clyne isn’t high in Jurgen Klopp’s plans for the season. He has endured a serious knee injury but even when back fully fit, he’s not going to infiltrate the first-team picture and is likely to leave, be in in January or the summer.

West Brom are a team keen to secure his services, but any move would have to be quick to get over the line before the deadline. A loan spell could be the answer to sealing a move before 11pm on Friday night.

Layvin Kurzawa (Paris Saint-Germain)

Potential destination: Arsenal

This one looked off a couple of days ago, but is now back on the table after his loan move to Juventus fell through. Kurzawa was going to be involved in a swap deal including Mattia De Sciglio, but that has now broken down.

All that means Arsenal could swoop back in, for their second defender of the week after securing Pablo Mari on Wednesday. Kurzawa was left out of PSG’s last swap and does appear to be leaving, but it may not be to the Emirates.

Jarrod Bowen (Hull)

Potential destination: Newcastle

This is another deal that has run and run throughout the window, and could still include some late movement. Newcastle are very keen on the player but haven’t yet been able to reach an agreement on the fee.

The latest update is that Hull have lowered their demands slightly, and are believed to want a sum in the region of £18million for their star player. Whether Newcastle will rise to that is the next question.

Kamil Grosicki (Hull)

Potential destination: Celtic, West Brom, Nottingham Forest

Another impending exit from Hull City looks to be that of Kamil Grosicki, who has some interest from higher in the division and north of the border.

Hull fans don’t appear too sad at the news he could leave, although the 31-year-old does still have an extension clause in his contract that could be activated by Hull.

West Brom and Forest are two promotion-chasing clubs keen, while Neil Lennon and Celtic are also keeping tabs ahead of a potential late swoop.

Islam Slimani (Leicester)

Potential destination: Aston Villa, Tottenham, West Ham, Manchester United

Islam Slimani has asked for his loan move at Monaco to be cut short ahead of interest from elsewhere in the January window. The Leicester man doesn’t appear to have a future at the King Power, but he could stay in the Premier League.

The likes of Aston Villa and West Ham have been linked, while big moves – albeit unlikely – have been mooted to Tottenham and Manchester United. It could be a busy couple of days for the Algerian.

Other potential deals

Marko Pjaca – Juventus to Newcastle. A few others are looking too, but the Magpies could seal an 18-month loan deal.

Wylan Cyprien – Nice to Newcastle/Bournemouth. Two Premier League strugglers in for £20million-rated attacking midfielder.

Ben Gibson – Burnley to Watford/Celtic. Initial loan move from the Hornets turned down, but still potential for a move to go through this month.

Nahki Wells – Burnley to Bristol City. Recalled by QPR ahead of a potential permanent move to Ashton Gate before the window closes.

Josh Brownhill – Bristol City to Burnley. If the above Wells deal happens, Bristol City’s captain could be heading the other way as part of the transfer.

Connor Wickham – Crystal Palace to Cardiff/Sheffield Wednesday. Striker is down the pecking order at Selhurst Park and is likely to head out on loan until the summer.

Victor Wanyama – Tottenham to Celtic/Aston Villa/AC Milan. Surplus to requirements at Spurs, likely to seal an exit before window shuts.
