Tottenham’s Daniel Levy looks to NFL to help find stadium sponsor

Hunt continues for naming rights

The Daily Mail has reported that Daniel Levy has turned to the NFL, specifically the Miami Dolphins, to hire Todd Kline as  their new Chief Commercial Officer, to help them find a sponsor for their £1 billion stadium. The club have been looking for a company to take the naming rights for almost two years.

Kline made a name for himself when in 2016 he was able to secure an 18 year naming rights deal for Hard Rock at the Miami Stadium. The deal was reported to be $250 million and it is rumoured that Spurs have been asking for £25 million a season for 15 years, but have yet to find any takers on what would be a world record amount.

The club’s finances were in the public eye when the club borrowed £175 million from the Bank of England to help ease the burden of Covid19 and the naming rights were seen as a vital way to fund the stadium.

The moves form part of number of changes at senior levels at the club as reported by Matt Law.

Trevor Birch was appointed as Director of Football Operations, but left within a matter of weeks to head up the English Football League and has yet to be replaced.

Tottenham Chairman Daniel Levy has strong links to the NFL and has made no attempt to hide his desire that the stadium should be the home of a team should a franchise land in London. The club built changing rooms to that specification and has already hosted games.

He will be hoping that his new employee is successful as the his current manager, Jose Mourinho, is used to having money to spend. Something which wasn’t afforded to his predecessor Mauricio Pochettino.

Tottenham crashed out the FA Cup last night and face a battle to make the Champions League places, in what would be a further blow to the clubs finances.
