Tom Brady May Never Catch A Fellow NFL Legend In One Category
Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback Tom Brady holds a number of NFL records.
Aside from having the most Super Bowls by a player, he also owns the record for most games won by a player and most combined touchdowns at 710.
After 22 seasons, the former sixth-round draft choice also has the most combined passing yards at 97,569 and most completions at 8,428.
He can still add to those numbers after ending his retirement to return for his 23rd NFL season.
His decision made the Buccaneers playoff contenders again and inspired Leonard Fournette and Chris Godwin to sign three-year extensions.
But of all the records he has, there is one milestone that he might not get.
Pro Football Reference shared the list of quarterbacks with 5,000-yard passing seasons.
Drew Brees leads the way with four while Brady has two.
Everybody else has one, including Super Bowl-winning quarterbacks Patrick Mahomes, Ben Roethlisberger, Peyton Manning, and Matthew Stafford.
Hall of Famer Dan Marino and current Los Angeles Chargers quarterback Justin Herbert are also on the list.
Brady is capable of having another 5,000-yard passing season because he had 5,316 yards last season.
Before 2021, he last reached that mark in 2011 when he had 5,235 yards for the New England Patriots.
Will Brady Play His Final NFL Season?
However, the Michigan alumnus wouldn’t catch up with Brees if 2022 will be his final NFL season.
Even if he crosses the 5,000-yard mark, he will only have three in his career, one shy of Brees’ mark.
Likewise, getting that many yards in a season isn’t guaranteed even if the NFL has been pass-happy.
Injuries to wide receivers can reduce a quarterback’s production as well.
But with the way Brady is playing, he can still lead the Buccaneers to the postseason and possibly retake the Super Bowl title.
That’s the accomplishment he wants more than a 5,000-yard season.
