Todd Bowles Future As Buccaneers Coach Reportedly Decided

While the Tampa Bay Buccaneers won the NFC South and will host a playoff game, it wasn’t a perfect season by any means. Tampa Bay struggled mightily on offense and defense and benefitted from a terrible defense. Many have wondered what will happen to first-year coach Todd Bowles. It seems the Bucs have already made that decision regardless of playoff success.

Todd Bowles Should Be The Coach Of The Buccaneers Next Season

Rick Stroud of the Tampa Bay Times reported that he believes Todd Bowles will be the coach of the Buccaneers next season. After being promoted from defensive coordinator after Bruce Arians moved to the front office, this season has been a little rocky. However, Stroud notes that Tampa Bay has never fired a coach after one year on the job. Given that history, it seems unlikely that they would start now.

This team is also slated to look very different next year. Tom Brady is most likely gone after this season. Whether he retires or goes and plays for another team, it seems like a foregone conclusion he will not be on the Bucs next season. With how much volatility that will happen in the roster, it wouldn’t surprise me if Bucs ownership decided to keep some stability in the coaching staff. I don’t think that Bowles will have a very long leash but he should not be on the hot seat going into the offseason.

Todd Bowles should keep his job. This season started out so rocky with the devastating injuries to the offensive line. Then there was the odd Tom Brady situation where he retired and then unretired and then took two weeks off during training camp. It was a weird season and they still found a way to win their division. Bowles will have to prove himself next season but this season should be safe.
