Today is the last day to fill out the 2020 Census

October 15 is the deadline to fill out the 2020 Census, which means today is your last chance to have your household counted.

The Census counts every person living in the U.S. and five U.S. territories. The Constitution mandates that the country must count its population every 10 years.

Once the count is complete, lawmakers, business owners, schools and more use that data to make important decisions for the community. Plus, the census count determines how much federal funding our city gets and the number of seats Texas will get in Congress.

On Tuesday, the Supreme Court ruled that the Trump Administration could halt the 2020 Census early, two weeks before the original deadline of Oct. 31. The New York Times’ Adam Liptak and Michael Wines report that the order “formally only pauses” the count while the administration and advocacy groups head to a federal appeals court, but effectively ends the census as it cannot be easily restarted before the end of the month.
