Titans hiring Ran Carthon as new GM, 49ers to receive comp draft picks

The Tennessee Titans are reportedly hiring San Francisco 49ers director of player personnel Ran Carthon as their new general manager, per Dianna Russini. That’s a significant loss to general manager John Lynch’s staff.

The good news is that the NFL will award the 49ers 2023 and 2024 compensatory picks as part of the league’s minority-hiring incentive program.

Carthon has been with the 49ers since 2017. He was named the team’s director of player personnel last year after serving as the team’s director of pro personnel. Carthon directs the evaluation of players across professional leagues and the collegiate level while performing advanced scouting of the 49ers’ upcoming opponents. He also helps prepare the team for acquisitions through free agency, trades, and the daily waiver wire.

Carthon previously worked as the director of pro personnel with the St. Louis/Los Angeles Rams (2012-16) and as a pro scout for the Atlanta Falcons (2008-11). He is a former NFL running back signed by the Indianapolis Colts as an undrafted free agent in 2004, playing with the club through 2006.
