While some much needed rain is expected to fall in San Antonio, forecasters are keeping close watch on a tropical wave in the Gulf of Mexico.

Forecasters say there is a 70 percent chance or “high chance” for a tropical cyclone development over the next five days. They say forecast confidence on impacts over South Central Texas is currently low, but it will help relieve stage one watering restrictions with pockets of rain.

According to the National Weather Service, “influence from a tropical wave moving across the southwestern/western Gulf of Mexico helps to keep daily chances for rain and thunderstorms in the forecast into midweek.”

The latest weather report released by the NWS, shows rain and thunderstorm chances returning Sunday afternoon with the greatest shot at rain on Monday with a 50 percent chance of precipitation

The National Hurricane Center says the tropical wave is currently producing  disorganized showers and thunderstorms over Honduras, the western Caribbean Sea, and portions of the Yucatan peninsula.

Forecasters continue to stress that models tend to change and anything can happen with tropical weather.
