Three Takeaways From the Saints 27-10 Win Over the Rams

The Saints offense in the last two weeks have been stagnant against the Ravens and the Steelers. Andy Dalton has had his struggles throughout the season, but he was able to remain calm in the pocket against a talented Rams defense. Dalton finished the game with 260 passing yards and three touchdowns.

The veteran quarterback only threw four incomplete passes as he was sharp finding open receivers down the field. Dalton was able to connect with rookie Chris Olave on a 53-yard beauty after the Saints tried to pull off a trick play that resulted in a negative loss of yardage. He remained poised even with some questionable decisions as the veteran quarterback didn’t throw any interceptions.

The Saints passing game was able to have success against the Rams secondary on their way to a 324 total yards on the day as the black and gold picked up their fourth win on the year as they continue their success against the NFC West this season.

Juwan Johnson Continues His Touchdown Streak:

On a day where the offense was clicking through the air, Juwan Johnson was one of the bright spots on that side of the ball. Even when the offense was having their struggles during a slow start to the year, Dalton was able to find Johnson in the endzone.

The veteran tight end was able to haul in three receptions for 47 yards and added a touchdown. With this touchdown today, Johnson extended his streak of hauling in five touchdowns in the last five games of the season.

Alongside Johnson, Olave led the Saints in receiving yards with 102 as he continues to have an impressive rookie season. Jarvis Landry was also able to haul in a touchdown to add to the consistency of the wide receiver room against Los Angeles.

Saints Defense Bring the Pressure:

New Orleans defense had to deal with key injuries heading into this game as Cam Jordan and Marshon Lattimore was inactive due to injuries. Payton Turner also suffered an ankle injury today and he did not see the field after he was carted off the field.

Even with the injuries, the Saints defense was able to bring pressure to the opposing quarterbacks that they faced today. Matthew Stafford started the game for the Rams, but would later exit due to an injury. New Orleans was able to feast on the Rams offensive line as they racked up four sacks on the day. Most of the sacks came against Bryce Perkins who came into the game for the injured Stafford.

Kaden Ellis had a career day against Los Angeles as he picked up 11 total tackles (six solo), 1.5 sacks, one tackle for loss, one pass deflection and two quarterback hits. Even with the absence of Jordan and Turner the Saints defense was able to confuse the opposing quarterback. Other than the big play to Tutu Atwell, New Orleans did a good job of staying disciplined on the day as they were only called for one penalty.
